We are on the road across Northern Ireland's Barnardos stores to show customers how to re-invent, refashion and reduce clothing waste!
I am a charity shop addict so when Barnardos and I brainstormed these events, I thought... 'Road trips around Ireland and charity shopping...what's not to love?!' I would say 75% of my wardrobe are 'finds' and re-inventions from charity shops. It's the thrill of the chase.
We will be taking over the window displays in Barnardos stores and setting up our 'pop-up' sewing surgery. Using shop stock and transforming styles before your eyes! From 5 minute fashion fixes to learning new sewing skills, there will be plenty of creative ideas to make your fashion finds one of a kind.
Drop in and get involved!
Coleraine: Friday 21st July 11am - 3pm.
The Coleraine store is mainly children's wear so it is great to be working with the kids clothes and bringing young people in and encouraging them to upcycle and re-invent. Barnardos is all about the children, so I think this is a great place to start!
Carrick: Friday 28th July 11am - 3pm
I will be re-inventing teen to adult clothing at the Carrick store, I can't wait to go up a few days before and rummage in the store room and on the shop floor!
Fast fashion isn't cheap and cheerful...its costing our planet dearly. Second hand doesn't mean second rate. By getting involved, learning new skills and how to update thrift shop 'finds' you can create your own look, be individual, and take your style from charity shop to catwalk!
The movement for re-inventing, up-cycling, and mending our clothes is spreading fast, lets get it to grow faster than fast fashion.
