Introduction to the Overlocker

  • Colour and Cloth 140 Roslyn Street Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT6 8JL United Kingdom (map)

These are 4 hour project based workshops on a Saturday.

Have you got an overlocker that is still in the box and are itching to find out what it can do? This class will have you whizzing your way around your own overlocker in no time! We will cover troubleshooting, the best needles to use for the job in hand, the best thread choices for the fabric. Please bring your own overlocker, foot pedal, instructions and accessories to the class.  A notepad, pencil and a camera will also be useful.

About your tutor: Christine's mum taught her to sew when she was six, which means she has been sewing for over 36 years! She has over 25 years experience in fashion, film costume, and self employment in Northern Ireland. She teaches with patience, enthusiasm and encouragement at every step.  Our N.I Sewing Bee Angeline Murphy was once one of her dressmaking students. Since 2008 she has taught more than 2000 students.

The Venue: Classes are held in Christine's quirky up-cycled home studio which has been featured both on television and in magazines.  This gives Christine access to her wardrobe where she can show students every seam, zip and different design that they will be learning.

Equipment: All sewing machines and sewing equipment is provided. Please bring your own overlocker, overlocker foot pedal and instruction leaflet.

Materials required at first class: Please bring a selection of fabrics to overlock on.  Bring 4 spools of exactly the same quality in the red, yellow, green and blue.

Maximum in class: 5 students. Class sizes are limited to 5 people so that learning is focused and fun.  There must be a minimum of 3 bookings for the class to run.

There will be a 15 minute refreshment break with tea and coffee.  You are welcome to bring your own lunch.
