A home is all about putting your personal stamp on your surroundings and decor. Cushions are the quickest and most versatile way of updating a room and they are easy to make! Why have a home straight out of a catalogue when you can have a home furnished and sewn with love. This class will show you everything you need to know to make your very first cushion. And its much quicker than a drive to the local interior store!

We will cover the following:

  • How to cut your fabric for a plump fitting cushion
  • How to cut and make an envelope backing
  • Tips creating the perfect cushion corner
  • How to put a zip into a cushion
  • How to make buttonholes and cover buttons
  • We will also show and inspire you with lots of cushion ideas and other closure options.

By the end of the session each student will go home with their own completed cushion closed in a method of their choice.

About your tutor: Christine's mum taught her to sew when she was six, which means she has been sewing for over 36 years! She has over 25 years experience in fashion, film costume, and self employment in Northern Ireland. She teaches with patience, enthusiasm and encouragement at every step.  Our N.I Sewing Bee Angeline Murphy was once one of her dressmaking students. Since 2008 she has taught more than 2000 students.

The Venue: Classes are held in Christine's quirky up-cycled home studio which has been featured both on television (The Great Interior Design Challenge Series 2) and in magazines: House Beautiful, Ideal Home and Northern Woman.  She has 18 cushions in her living room alone, all of which she has made.  She loves cushions! She bought her 1st home in 2006 and has created a 'living breathing space with an emphasis on comfort'.
