About our classes and workspace

Colour and Cloth classes are hosted and taught by Christine Boyle who has been sewing since she was 6...and that's a long time! She has taught over 1000 students in colleges, community groups, individual tuition and mentoring.  She has over 15 years experience in the Northern Ireland Fashion, Design and manufacturing industry and over 10 years experience being self employed in the Costume Industry.  Previous students have followed their dreams into costume, fashion and setting up their own creative ventures. From 8 to 85 years young, and all level of abilities, Christine teaches with professionalism, patience, enthusiasm, encouragement and experience.   Angeline Murphy who is representing Northern Ireland on Season 4 of The Great British Sewing Bee, was once one of her dressmaking students.  Sewing sessions and workshops are friendly, fun and focused. There are classes for those just starting out, those who have years of experience and everyone in between.

Why learn to sew?

Sewing is a lifelong skill handed down through generations.  Sewing allows an appreciation of how things are made, helps you save money by learning essential skills so you can make things for your wardrobe, your home and for others.  Its about sewing for your own pleasure, to enrich your own life.  Sewing can be social or solo, by hand or machine, its up to you. Either way, sewing seems to absorb and sooth the soul. Working with cloth gives a hands on sensory experience, the power of touch, a connection.

‘Have patience.  Be prepared to practise, repeat and persevere, because the rewards will be joyful.’

Most classes are held in the lovely creative first floor studio. Craft sessions are often held in the cosy living room, filled with comfy cushions and beanbags. If you require disabled access, please let us know when booking the class. 4 sewing machines are provided, however you are welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer.
