If a new sewing machine is on your Christmas list, or you have had one unopened in a box for a while? This compact workshop is what you need to discover what your dream machine can do.

This fun and friendly class aims to give understanding of the following:

  • Once out of the box, setting up, winding and threading up.

  • Discovering the tool box and what each foot is for

  • Troubleshooting - what to do when things go wrong

  • Basic machine maintenance: caring for, and cleaning your machine

  • The importance of correct thread, and needle choice for fabrics.

  • Basic stitches and basic sewing machine stitches.

This workshop focuses on your machine and is not a ‘Beginners Sewing Class’. We will cover a few basic stitches and seams as these will all form part of discovering your own machine.

  • Advice on where to purchase quality sewing supplies and the essentials for your sewing kit.

  • Lots of bonus sewing and machine tips for good measure

This workshop focuses on your machine and is not a ‘Beginners Sewing Class’. We will cover a few basic stitches and seams as these will all form part of discovering your own machine. You will leave having made friends with your new machine, and with the fear factor gone! 

Equipment:  Please bring your own sewing machine, the foot pedal and instruction leaflet and accessories.  A notepad, pencil and a camera will also be useful. 

Materials required at first class: All fabric s, threads and sewing equipment is provided.

Maximum in class: 5 students. Class sizes are limited to 5 people so that learning is focused and fun.  There must be a minimum of 3 bookings for the class to run.

There will be a 10 minute refreshment break with tea and coffee.  You are welcome to bring your own snacks.

FREE on street parking. Please be respectful to the neighbours parking spaces.

About your tutor: Christine's mum taught her to sew when she was six, which means she has been sewing for over 36 years! She has over 25 years experience in fashion, film costume, and self employment in Northern Ireland. She teaches with patience, passion, enthusiasm and encouragement at every step.  Our N.I Sewing Bee Angeline Murphy was once one of her dressmaking students. Since 2008 she has taught more than 2000 students.

The Venue: Classes are held in Christine's quirky up-cycled home studio which has been featured both on television and in magazines.  This gives Christine access to her wardrobe where she can show students every seam, zip and different design that they will be learning.
